Does anyone know about the "amazon freshwater sole"? I am seeing them pop-up for sale every now and then which has me curious about them.

They are a fair bit pricier than the brackish flounder that used to show up a lot, I think those were "Trinectes maculatus " a brackish species. No idea what the "amazon freshwater sole" really is, I assume there are more than one species but it looks like "Apionichthys natterer" is the one likely to be offered for sale.

Either way I would like to know more about them as there is close to zero information online.

I kept the brackish "freshwater flounder" for some time. They were shy, slow to find food, rarely seen, but not actually difficult to keep alive but also not an enjoyable fish to own. Wouldn't surprise me if the amazon sole was the same, but I would love to be wrong.

I'm a guy who is happy with a tank that contains a single fish hiding in a cave, with a set of barbels or perhaps its head sticking out motionless at the opening...but even I can't imagine the point of keeping one of these flatfish. They're probably a cool novelty for a month or two...but afterwards...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...:)

But, hey...maybe you'll enjoy a tank with a couple of motionless cow-pies on the bottom...:)

It is not so much me wanting to keep them, but more I just want to know more because I like knowing everything.

Such a picture will be the most exciting that this flatfish will show you. Even once a month.. That was the most boring fish I ever had...
Whether it is from Asia or America, brackish or freshwater - they all have a similar behavior.

If I see something similar again I will buy them as I had 3 flounder type fish I kept in my sump a couple of years ago and after having them a short while they came out as soon as bloodworm or brine shrimp came out and eat out in the open with the lights on . The tank split and everything died but they were ace

Perhaps the least boring was achirus achirus. However, he required live food and did not have time to feed in the community tank.
