i have heard of a freshwater puffer native to the amazon that grows to eight inches long is this the same species as the bumblebee puffer or is it a different species?

Max size of the SAP (Colomesus asellus) is 3: http://www.**************.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Freshwater/C_Asellus/

There is a similar-looking puffer, called the Parrot puffer (Colomesus psittacus), which is brackish & grows to 15".

These look like what my LPS is calling a "striped puffer". I think it should be mandatory to have the species labeled on the tank. If they do not know what species it is than they should not be selling it.

very good point, unfortunately it is an industry that is perpetuated by ignorance of the masses (consumers) and changes does not come quickly or easily.

Never gonna happen. LFS will also continue to sell tankbusters to folks with 10g tanks. I saw at least 10, 2" iridescent sharks FS at my LFS.

And there we go again ;)

As long as we are not demanding and using scientific names ourselves, there won't be a change in the trade.

I, for example, do not know which exact species is meant without looking it up, since I am German...
