Hi everybody! I have decided to try and setup a tank that is a realistic as possible for a hydrolycus scomberoides and see if i can maybe grow one up to a good size. But I have a few questions:
where do most of the scombs in the hobby come from?
What are the water parameters in these rivers(ph,hardness etc)?
How fast is the current?
And how much does the water temperature flunctuate through the seasons?
Thanks:)

Hydrolycus Scomberoides comes from Peru in the Amazon River Basin.

Most characins (including payara) need water that is slightly acidic with a Ph of 7.5 to 8.5.

They also like hard water. City water is fine......well water might not be. Depending on where you live, check with the water board to see the water parameters or get a test kit.

The water should be warm and sit consistently between 82 and 85 degrees.

Depending on the size of the tank, if you don't have a mag pump from a sump to create current you may want to get a nice powerhead.

acidic water is <7, 7.5 would be slightly basic.

You are not going to be able to replicate the actual river flow rate, unless they come from almost still water.

I'm pretty sure they come from fairly high current regions, plus the body shape appears adapted to that habitat.

2 or 3 big hydor koralias on one end of the tank would work well though, or you could build a river tank manifold and hook up a large pump or two.

How big is the tank going to be?
