Medway Me.
As most of you know I am making an 'Amazon theme tank' I have already asked a hundred questions but I want this to be perfict. What is the best subtrate for such a tank? I was thinking sand but I want some expert oppinions!

Eco Complete.

Biologically complete means it contains live heterotrophic bacteria to rapidly convert fish waste into natural food for your aquatic plants; creates a natural biological balance which makes cycling a new aquarium faster and safer; packed in Liquid Amazon buffered "Black Water" solution for immediate organic water conditioning; unsurpassed MacroPorosity for healthy roots and bacterial efficiency. You would need to buy 4 bags of ordinary gravel to equal the surface area of this one bag of substrate.

could this be mixed with a bit of gravel? or is that not a good idea?

i mixed mine with gravel cuz i didnt feel like paying for a lot of eco. cleaning is just surface suctioning, and every now and then stir it up a lil because it gets compacted over time and can trap deadly gases. it should say on the websites that sell it the amount required for a good substrate depth.

Aqua Design Amano's "Amazonia" is perfect. It'd be more expensive, but if you want plants, it'll grow them amazingly, it softens water to buffer it to be close to the actual amazon and supposedly a main ingredient is an extract from actual Amazon substrate. I've never been, so I'll take their word for it. Other than this, Eco-Complete's substrate would be just as good.

A Silver, their not sure but around 6 in. My tank is 6ft. by 3ft. and 2ft tall. I know this is small but I'll have a bigger one by December (My Birthday)
