I'm trying to set up a tank with an Amazon river theme. The main species would be angelfish, but what other types of fish originated from that area and would be found naturally with them. I know a lot of tetras are but are all species of tetra from that area. Also is there anything other than tetras and discus that would qualify.

theres lots of amazon fish if ya want something smaller than a tiger shovelnose try a hoplo i'm pretty sure those are amazons

I would go with some corys so you have fish at a different level in the tank. Festivum, Severums. I have a friend that even has an oscar that allows his angels to live in peace in a 125.

try some hatchet fish. I have 6 silvers, that would live thru a nuclear blast!

also like the juli corys. brings some nice silvers and interesting patterns into the tank.

i like to have some bright colored dwarf cichlids ie: super red apistos, orange rams.

Festivums look cool, but i have yet to find them in a LFS to try them.

Apistogrammas and severums would be the ones that I would pick. The latter being my #1 choice I think that Sevs and angels go great together. They have very similar personalities and attitudes.
