I am trying to find a nice fish collecting trip for the end of this year in the amazons. Found a couple but they don't seem to be collecting the type of fish I like. I want to find one that goes where they have discus, altums, apistogrammas. Has anyone gone on one of these trips or know of a trip that collects nice SA cichlids?

hmm try Spencer Jack, I know he has a collecting trip coming up but I'm not too sure where. I know he likes to collect a lot of different / new species though. Not just the ones he will make money on.
problem is where all the greats are found is where the rebel groups in south america also frequent so theres going to be hard ships finding tours,,there are tours and i would not think twice about going on one, would love to..iam going to colombia for a month end of july myself

You can not collect in Brazil, it's illegal for non-natives. So best (and safest) place is Peru, Margarita tours will put you on green discus, nice red spotted Peruvian angels and lots of Apistos and arrange to have your fish shipped back. http://www.amazon-ecotours.com/
I would not go to Colombia or Venezeula right now do to the political sittuation and difficulty in bringing fish back. Not worth spending time in a S.A jail. I've been on 8 collecting trips, much easier the first time to go with people who do it all the time. Ken
