I found a few moray eels described as 'Amaazonian Freshwater Moray Eels' in a local fish store... there was no-one around to ask about them and there was no other info... although I was tempted to buy one, I thought it best to do a bit of research first.

I can only find info on Gymnothorax polyuranodon, which is a brackish water species from indonesia (ish..). The only reference to an Amazonian species is on http://members.tripod.com/~stingray_21/index.html, and quite frankly looking at everything else on this site I'm not inclined to trust it much!

Does anyone know if there is a true freshwater moray from the Amazon? If so, what is the latin name and description and what are it's requirements?

My set up is a 100gal tank with plec, 3 tinfoils, senegal bichir, silver dat, syno brichiardi, clown acara and a leporinus.

Any info much appreciated

same issue about snowflake eels

my lfs had one and i discussed it with the clerk. to make a long story short: there is no such thing as a FRESHWATER moray. at best, you can maintain that particular species in BRACKISH water.

BRACKISH!! Not Fresh water :( my LFS has a bunch of these guys in fresh and there all doing poorly..

We have one in here in Australia that lives in the tropical rainfrost rivers this moray only lives in freshwater.
