I got this out of some feeders from the LFS i used to work at a while back and he's growing like a weed in my tank. He is Ameirus serracanthus, right? The feeders came from Florida, and I'm surprised that I think I scored a native fish from Florida (who'd uh thunk it??). The couple of posts I've seen from people with these fish said they came from feeder tanks. Anyone collected them in the wild? What was the habitat like?

Excuse the crappy pic.

Well, i would guess thier habitat is like other bullheads. When i did some research, it said they like a sandy bottom and that they are often found in/by tree stumps. So i would reccomend putting somthing like driftwood in there.

I have 4 of those. They are great catfish. I have mine on a sandy bottem, and lots of driftwood and some plants. Ive never cought one in the wild though. Only the LFS tank! lol

Yeah, my brother was just in Destin, FL, and I guarantee you he didn't think of goin up a river and doing a few seine hauls to see what there is to see (and catch some of these cats). That's what he gets for being an engineering student... doesn't know what he's missing.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting around waiting for it to stop raining for a day (or a week) so I can get out and do work on the rivers.

lol, I sit around and wait for every thursday when they get the feeders in and see if there is one. I remember when I did some reserch the place they were most seen was.. the.. Chattahoochee rivers here in florida. I think the Escambia river was on there to, but they didnt have many. There were more but I forgot which ones. Well I know a pond that will be stocked with them if mine ever have some little ones.
