AMERICAN EEL QUESTIONS!

I have the oppertunity to pick out one from a baitshop and i know NOTHING about them!

But from what i do hear people say they are really cool!

It would live alone (maybe i can get a pair? I do not know if they do well with tankmates) in a 75 gallon. I could do slightly larger but i would rather use my empty 75.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:

1).How big do they get and how fast do they grow???

2). Are they full freshwater?

3). What do they eat?

4). Are they hiders or will they interact?

5). What size tank do they need?

I assume they are escape artists so i have a really good lid.

1. Males <20" and thin, females >3' and thick

2. Yes ,until they spawn

3. Anything meaty

4. Both..

5. That 75 is good for a long time, ultimately probably something 6' long.
 
Are they compatible with tank mates such as BGK, bichirs, angelfish, nandus nandus and geophagus? I was about to buy one as well but dont know anything about them.
 
I believe you will know later on if its a female :P
 
These eels are very long lived creatures....
