I am not sure about what specific type of eel your looking for .... but I am avid fisherman and I have watched some fishing shows on the east coast they use some type of eel for stripped bass fishing ... they said that you can pick them up at any local bait shop they was fishing around NY or Nj I forget which ...

jeesh cat you just rang a bell with me ill call the tackle shop in portland tomorrow my boss and i a few years back bought some for striper fishin but switched to trolling with surgical tubing instead thanks for ringin my bell i had forgotten about that

You do know that eels get to be 3 feet long quickly and are major predators of small fishes? I've had them hide in the gravel of a tank and slowly but surely kill and eat every fish in the tank.

Moontanman, were you the guy that had one escape through an under-gravel filtration system?

Yeah, they hide under the under gravel plate which i was using as a layer of dead water for denitrification. The eels were put in the tank as 3" babies. They promptly vanished and I thought they had been eaten by a madtom or maybe jumped out, which they do exceptionally well, but they had found a way to get under the filter plate and grew to about 24 to 30 inches, longer than the 15 gallon tank they were in. They ended up eating or killing every fish in the tank including a shovelnose sturgeon, three madtoms, several sunfish and iron colored shiners. I kept putting fish in the tank and they would either be killed or just disappear. So I took the tank down to clean it out and low and behold under the filter plate were the two big eels!

I currents have one and yes they WILL eat small fish but they leave anything that is to big alown. There kind of like catfish in there habbits.

They are very good escape artists too. Keep your tank and any holes covered.

I have a couple Amer.Eels (Anguilla rostrata) I could sell you. They are quite small right now about 3" and the girth of a spaghetti noodle. If you want a bit larger one there is a guy on tropical fish auction . com that sells them. They are about 6 inches and much fatter.

Just type in American Eel in the search box. Good luck
