A few months ago I had caught a small 8 inch range American Eel in my minnow trap, and I posted pics, etc... but I just realized that nobody else has one.

Does nobody else have one? I know some of you have other Anguilla species, but am I the only one with an American eel? I am curious what your experiences are with them. I know all about them, just want to know your personal experiences.

Mine is about 10 inches, loves earthworms. (Have not paid attention to see what else, if anything, he eats.) But he is awesome! He lives with my 3 larger Gold Tulip Eels and a pleco. (VVATEVA - yep - the same one you gave me)

It has been several years since I kept one, that one was about 30". Great fish, eats most meaty foods and feeders.

where did you catch it? I heard that the charles river and the neponset river has some, but I've never seen or caught one at those places before.

i have one... he's small and eats night crawlers
and crayfish

Those who have / had them - did you keep them in full fresh?

What happened to the 30 incher? How was he with tankmates?

This one is from an estuary on the North Shore - keeping him in full fresh. (No acclimation)

Never kept one but I would like to give it a try. Our state record (NY) AE was caught in Cayuga lake, about 10 minutes from where I live. It was caught on a night crawler, was about 7 pounds.

Ha this asian store near my house sells them for about 2 dollars. They are pretty large, i will be housing one with my red devil in a 55 gallon.

I'm thinking of putting an australian one (10") in with my 75 gal with a JD and Oscar.
