I'm just wondering if anyone has ever kept one of the freshwater eels native to the streams and rivers of the United States I've wanted one from the first time Ive seen one they almost remind me more of a lungfish but I'm needing to know if they are legal or not as well as some info on the care it takes to keep one alive long term I've never heard of it being done before and I've only read about people termporarlily keeping them on sites like this but I'm assuming based on size alone you'd need atleast a 125 gallon tank with a lot of caves and crevices plus a tight fitting lid? and you'd probably have to ween from live food to frozen thawed then maybe pellets if your lucky but I'm almost positive you could get one on a frozen thawed diet. Now I'm just stuck on where to find one assuming care would be pretty basic. I know they are eaten in some areas and I've even tried the meat at a sushi bar once could I buy one live from a live meat market? if so where would one be in Texas that would carry such a thing maybe Houston San Antonio Dallas? I'm not sure, can anyone help me find a link online to a seller of said fish?

Heya,

I've heard of people getting them from bait shops, I've also heard they're easy to keep.
No experience with eels myself but I'm setting up my 300gal to be dedicated eel tank. Mine will be Longfin eels though (Anguilla Reinhardti)
