Hey everyone,

I was directed to this section from another post I put up.

So I'm looking at finding american eels. Every time I try to search for them it only comes up with frozen eels and eels by the pound to eat, although that might be yummy, that won't actually work for my tank.

My director said that he ordered eels from Canadian hatchery but they couldn't make it past customs. So where is a hatchery or somewhere that I can find some eels?

Thank you!

Might find someone here that will send you some. Usually they are found in tackle shops as bait, but I doubt you will find them in New Mexico.

I have seen them for sale in small asian markets, since they usually have live fish like tilapia in tanks there. I've seen some crazy fish for sale there, once I saw a little Japanese shop near me selling freshwater lionfish, live bullfrogs, and live soft shell turtles (all meant for eating but were being sold alive). If I were looking to buy an American eel, I'd check an asian grocery store before a lfs tbh.

I will try to find some asian shops around here with live tanks. Im not sure of any here unfortunately. It's looking like a lost cause

I use them as bait in the Chesapeake bay every summer. They cost like two bucks at the shop. If you pm me ill ship you one when I go down. It'll be like june or July. And you just put them in a bag on ice and they will last for a long time as they breath air.

Caught a 26" Sunday night in the shenandoah river. Sorry too big to ship guys. I'll be going again soon though. Cross your fingers for a baby ;)

Picked up 10 from the bait shop. Message me your address and I'll get you a shipping quote when I get home.
