So after searching high and low finally got a couple of Dats. They are both American Tiger Dats and are roughly 2-3inches in size.

Currently they are in a grow out tank with a couple of leaf fishes [Nandus Nandus].

Kept lots of plants and few caves and stuff for them to hide in but the problem is that they are always in hiding and unless and until i aim and drop the Hikari sinking carnivore pellets directly where they are hiding they dont eat.

are juvenile dats always like that? should i take out the tank decor and keep it bare?

once they are grown up, they will go into my 150G asian aro tank :)

but that seems so far away...sigh

How long have you had the AT's? It does take them a little while to get use to the tank and food your offering them. Once they get use to both the food and tank they should be out and about more. I would suggest you get a few more so they will feel more confident and it wouldn't hurt to put some dither fish in there. Remember to put some salt in that tank.

had them for a month now.

no problems with them feeding. if i drop the pellets to where they are hiding they easily gulp down 5-6 pellets at one go! but if the pellet falls a bit away from them then they dont seem to want to come out and get them :(

yes read a few threads and found that dither fish is a good idea. thanks :)

but is salt necessary?

and what would you think about them being in a 6x1x1 tank with loaches, demisonis, barbs etc?

AT's are usually very aggressive feeders and out and about more than most smaller dats. I would say that salt is necessary for them as they get bigger. They just tend to do much better with some salt in the water. They will be fine with clown loaches and Puntius denisonii (I'm guessing that's the one) just as long as they are both bigger than the AT's.

thanks :)

shall take out the Nandus Nandus and add some aqua salt in there :)

got a few smaller sized polka dotted loaches and panda corys in the other tank so dont want to move them in ther :(
