dude amia calva is a BOWFIN not a catfish. a few people on here have them.

Can we get this moved so this guy can get the help he needs? Or since he found the right section close it. Sorry us cat guys can't be of more help. Hope you find what you need.

The bow fin is an ancient fish similiar in characterstics but not related to snakeheads. They are found East of the rockies from Florida up to Canada I believe. They tend to live in swampy oxbow type waters and are highly predatory eating just about anyhitng they can get ahold of. I have never kept one but I have observed a 2 footer in the aquarium at Bass Pro Shops on several occasions and it seems to be a rather inactive fish. It is always suspended in the same spot every time I visit the aquarium.

Not much but I hope it helps!

maybe bowfins and snakeheads are a result of "paralel evolution" Crayfish seemed to have done it (its harder to sex the crayfish from australia because they have evolved a littel differently) and hell, people have done it too... People around the world each developed their own language, ate grain foods (have you noticed how most civilizations ate noodles?) and devloped writing even though not at the same time.

It would be really hilarious if a bowfin and a snakehead crossbred. Then you would get a bowhead or a snakefin.

I just wrote a profile about these in the native profiles section only a few minutes ago. Check it out.
