Ammo chips Question

Stuff like ammo chips by AP and like White diamond say they neutralize ammonia....would it be bio media or chemical? Are tehre chemicals on this type of media or does it just provide surface area? I would like to know!

its chemical, i wouldnt use it. that would stop your beneficial bacteria from growing, causing your tank to be unstable. which could result in fish death.

That's right. They tend to have wide swings in both directions. Where as, doing a proper cycle your tank is very stable. Even with a sudden large load, it will recover within 10to 14 hours.

Adequate bio filtration will take care of ammonia. Depending on chemical medias to control ammonia will in time cause major problems.

I agree with what has been posted, Ammo Chips are good for emergencies only.
