Ammo-chips

I am looking into building a DIY canister filter, and I am trying to figure out what types of filtraion I should consider.

What are ammo-chips, how do they work?

They are ammonia absorbing media. I think personally they are a waste unless its a total emergency. A cycled tank should be able to handle its bio load without special media like ammo chips. If you want something to make the water sparkle id say go for seachems matrix carbon. Stay away from that ammo chip crap though. JMO
