I left my fish in the care of my roommate over this past week while I was on vacation. I did a 20% water change the day before I left and forgot to tell him not to feed the fish for a day. He fed them immediately and I think he may have fed them way too much, causing a huge ammonia spike. When I got home the two flowerhorn (5" and 3") in my 55 gallon have clamped fins and worse. The smaller one has white poop, so he's got hex. That one's easy (to diagnose, not necessarily fix).

The bigger one has something I've never seen before, his skin looks like it's peeling off. Maybe it's the slime coat? I've never seen anything like it before. White and peely all over. And the sponge filter in the tank seems to have a weird white substance on it as well. Just had a thought, could have been scratching himself on the filter because of high ammonia levels?? That white could be where he's rubbed? Any thoughts??

I'll be doing a WC and adding some parasite clear for the hex.

I disagree with your diagnosis. White poop itself is resultant of stress as well. Parasite Clear is way too harsh for your poor fish. Just do a small water change first by 25-30%, add the salt at a teaspoon per gallon for now and feed peas. Swish the sponge in old tank water to remove the film and sludge and vacuum your substrate thoroughly.

What exactly are your water parameters?
