I didn't really know where to post this so any mods feel free to move it.
My dad has a koi pond that has been running for a little over a year and all was fine until recently...
He brought a test kit when 1 of his fish got sick ( I think bacterial infection with the slime coat ) and his ammonia is around 0.25 and 0.50 on his NT labs test kit, on my API masters kit it shows 0.25
The other perimeters are:
Temp fluctuates between 10-15c
Nitrites 0
Nitrates around 20
PH 7.8
And ammonia us as I said
The pond is 3500 litres and he has a pressurised filter rated for 5000 litres and that feeds into a large pond/sump
Filter.
He has around 10 small koi (all under 1') a diamond sturgeon around 14" and 5 small blue orfes so I don't thing he is over stocked.
Basically I'm asking how he can have ammonia in a cycled pond? Could it be that the filters are inadequate? They are supposed to be easily enough for his pond but I can't think of anything else?
Hope someone can help!
