omg. so the past two weeks, all my fish died after a water change. also my tank received an ammonia spike. the spike went up to a 4.0 and right now it's about an 8.0. There is no fish in the tank so i'm just hoping it just cycles again and gets rid of ammonia on its own. Today i also did an ammonia test and the tap had ammonia in it. It read at 2.0ppm. What the heck am i supposed to do about my tap system?

i think i read on here somewhere that ammonia in your tap is an indicator of chloramine. you need to use a water conditioner before it goes in your tank or bye-bye beneficial bacteria!!!!

I learned that in my area, I have to treat the water. The readindings change from 0 to over 2.0, and the PH changes sometimes also.

Municipal water supplies will often contain chloramines which will register on am ammonia test. Prime will remove this as well as chlorine and it will detoxify ammonia.
