Its around 8. The tank was fine, fish were healthy untill I took a two day vacation just to come back to see a cloudy tank with super high Ammonia levels and the PH dropped to 6 from 7. I did a few water changes the past few days . But no luck, I tested the water that was to be put in, not a sign of ammonia. Once I put it into the tank, boom back to 8. It seems as if the water changes are not doing anything.

Any help guys?

You need to do very large water changes atleast 75% to get it under control for the moment. Since your source water has no ammonia and you say after a water change it is right back to 8ppm, this tells me that you are not doing nearly enough of a water change.

I would do a 75-90% water change now. And then do a 50% water change at any time you have a ammonia reading of 1ppm or more. It doesn't matter if it is 10 times a day or once a week.

Ammonia is a by product of decomposition. So somewhere in the system you have something decomposing and rotting.

It could be organic like a bunch of dead or dieing plants. It could be a tank mate that has went missing. It could be a large amount of uneaten foods. ETC,ETC.

So right after you have done the first 75-90% water change then start looking for the cause. Check in all filters top to bottom for dead fish, check under and all around any decoration. ETC,ETc

good luck

PH lower than 6 your beneficial bacteria start to die off so you may be going or going to go through another cycle. One benefit lower pH means AMM is less lethal..

Ensure it's not your water conditioner and or test kit giving you false readings...Take you water to an LFS you trust for a 2nd reading.

i been having the same problem i was told my pacu and wolf fish are causing large amounts of amonia from all the fish they eat it realy sucks man ive lost so much money in fish because of it
