?
so ammonia was high and it almost killed the 2 tsn i gave them away to lfs. my tank now has arowana datnoid and bichirs they seem fine active. i did a 50 percent water change and add new water with large sponge filter as well. tank looks clear now. i also added a live plant from pond which has beneficia bacteria. how to reduce more ammonia

Lots of filtration , weekly water change at least 20% more if poss , rid of uneaten food straight away and if your keeping cats or bottom dwellers poss get rid of gravel/sand , all these things have helped me keep ammonia down in past without use of chemicals

This is a terrible "fix", but I've actually recommended it to some people that really were in way over their heads with their tank size and stock. If you keep your pH at 6, ammonia has to reach truly epic levels to kill your fish. You just need to be sure to use lots of prime when you do big water changes like 50%. Assuming that your tap kH is < 80, in general it's easy to keep your pH at 6, just don't put any crushed coral in the tank and take bad care of it.

You really shouldn't have any ammonia at all if your tank is cycled, you should be dealing with nitrates. Do you have enough bio-balls etc?

How long has the tank been set up? What size is the tank? An Arrowana, dats and bichirs are going to require a very large tank.

i don't have bio balls but now fish seem to do fine. i got a sponge and canister filter working and have not fed fish for 2 days. i wont to lower the ammonia since iam getting arapaima for my new 5,000 gallon pond

I've heard that arapima are much more sensitive to water conditions than aro's so id defo get the tank cycled and ammonia sorted before you get it , likewise with the pond , is that set up and runnin already ?
