it is made to litteraly kill bacteria. and it doesnt know the difference.

I was having an brown algea problem. That's why I started using it. It killed the algea. Everything has a white powdery substance on it. I've been alternating a 25 and 50% water change. Thinking that it's probably going through a mini cycle, I've added water from one of my other tanks to get my nitrates up. Nitrates are only 5.0.
I need advise as to what is going on with this tank. About a week ago I shuffled my fish around so I could move the fish out of the tank that is having the ammonia problem. The ammonia is 2.0, nitrite is 0 and nitrate is 5.0. I have a four stage exterior 525gph filter and I had a hang on, which I have moved that one to the tank that I moved the fish to so it could help with the load. I have had perfect readings in this tank since I set it up over a year ago. I removed the 200ml Phosguard bag that I put in there to kill the algea. I even did a over a 50% water change after the fish were removed. Can anyone help me, please?
Have you checked your local water facility to see if they use chloramine?
It's various things that could have contributed to this fish growth, over feeding.
Also learned this from a very knowledgeable member Duane that test vials should be rinsed out with distilled water. The vial will be stained by chemical residue causing a false reading.
No If you still have any fish in the aquarium don't feed them for a couple of days and retest.
