Ammonia test? And Cure?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
api sells an ammonia test kit. why do you have ammonia presence? how long has the tank been set up and is it cycled? try doing a WC and see if it solves the problem

Hey guys, you know of any ammonia test kits or just ammonia test or something like it? And how do you cure it? i heard by water changes?
Any LFS has an ammonia test kit, as well as online retailers...
Water changes are the easiest way to lower ammonia levels, and then there are products like Prime, AmQuel+ and the like...Look for water conditioners and read the label...

A high ammonia reading is telling you that your Biological filter isn't processing Ammonnia...that is where you need to look into the "why" the levels are high...

No, i dont have it. But i want to know how to know how low and high it is and how i can treat it, if i ever get it. And could you explain to me the nitrogen cycle(: and how much do API liquid ammonia test kit go for?

the whole lliquid test that comes with nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and ph drops is about 20 or so dollars. dont buy test strips, they can be innacurate if they some how get wet before the test.

what is your stock? tank size? how long its been set up?

I plan on having one redtail catfish in a 850 gallon pond. thats it, but now am reading its mostly offten in tropical fish. Its been setup for a good year now.

I dont have ammonia in any of my tanks i was just wondering on how to get rid of it and how to test if i have it...

the nitrogen cycle: ammonia ----> nitrite ----> nitrate

bacteria convert ammonia into nitrite then more bacteria convert nitrite into nitrate. then u have to do water changes to remove the nitrate. having ur tank cycled means u don't have to do anything to remove ammonia, the system ''removes it''.

i hope this clears things up.
