First off I screwed up and am aware of that. 2 small oscars 75gal tank. Fluval fx4 for about a week than added fx6 both with additional sponge and media Constant ammonia issues low nitrites and low nitrates ph about 7. reduced feeding the past couple days small water changes pretty much everyday 10-15gallons. 30ish gallons every 3-4days. Today I noticed cloudy water ammonia maxed out on api test kit. Changed about 65 gallons tonight waited couple hrs checked again still about 4ppm. Been using ammo lock. Anything else I can or should be doing. Fish have been doing great a grown like crazy in the about 3-4 weeks I’ve had them

You've had your fish for 3-4 weeks so i'm guessing that your tank has only been set up for 3-4 weeks too? If this is correct you are basically doing an in fish cycle with these two poor fish. You say they have grown like crazy since you've got them. This suggests to me you are heavy on the feeding, hence their bulking up.

Heavy feeding in a tank that isn't cycled in the first place, with a species of fish that many regard as very messy, and that is why your ammonia is sky high.

Stop feeding altogether, do some large water changes, using conditioner, and if you have a source add some media from an established filter to help with your BB colony.

You are new to the forum so I haven't got a clue what your level of experience is but i'd suggest reading up, in depth, on the nitrogen cycle.

Hope your little oscars pull through this.

If you are using ammo lock it's still going to test high because all it does is transform it into a non harmful form of ammonia. You would probably be better off doing 30 gallon changes everyday

Yes 3-4 weeks is correct. I am familiar with the concept of the nitrogen cycle I just never realized until this experience and reading this forum that they could take so long. I have a 12,000 gallon koi pond and I once setup up a 1000gallon pool with new filter in my basement to winter the koi and I feel like that was cycled within a week or 2

I was aware that I would still get the reading. I was surprised after the very large water change that my reading was still so high

Yea when this happens you should be doing 50-60% changes until it goes down
