It just will not go down no matter what i do. the only fish in the tank is a 13 inch tsn in a 55. tank has been up and running almost 2 months now but never seems to get the amonia below 2.0. I have been doing a 5 to 10 gallon watter changes on every two day basis for the last 2 weaks with no results. tank has a standard 2 large cartrige filter systen. have even tried filling cartriges with amonia rocks but no luck there.

any suggestion is welcome

side note if it matters a 10 gallon tank with 2 2inch ciclids was set up around the same time in the same area and it cycled fine. and so did the 30 gallon oscar tank sitting next to it with a 5, 4 and 2 inch oscar. also in all the tanks only leathery or hard thick leaves plants seem to live and grow. anthing else dies in less then 3 to 5 days.

Ps :chillpill:tsn is moving to a 120 in a weak so back off on the tank size coments for now:chillpill:

I think you need more bio filtration. I had the same problem and removed 2 trays from my FX5 and added more bio-rings... there is only ammonia after large feeding and no more ammonia the next day.

yah more filtration is what im thinking to I am planning on making a 20gallon sump in the next 2 weaks weak thats the problem with maine all the good stuff has to be shipped here.

You need more bio filtration. What are you using to treat your water when you do a water change?

it is well water straight from my 30 ft dug well. tested and pure as it gets only problem is massivly low ph so have to add a ph boster to the chiclid tanks to make them happy

If the ph is too low it can kill off your BB, anything lower than 6 is the danger zone

yup just did some major research on this it seems that at 5.5 it goes dormant and at 5 it starts to die off. ok so we found the problem.....

Now how do I fix it with out shocking my poor fish

I had that propblem my ph got so low my bio wouldn't grow. added coral and got my ph up to 8.2 and my bb started to grow again

I have low ph out my tap as well and add crushed coral to my filter and/or aragonite sand to my substrate and my ph stays steady at 7.8 ish.
