How long has the tank been set up? What is the pH level? Nitrite and nitrates levels? Tank size, stock and filtration? What type tests are you using and have you compared them to another test? The more info you provide the better chance a solution can be suggested. Though zero is the ideal level for ammonia, .25 ppm is not real bad but does need corrected.

The tanks been up since December 15th. Nitrite at 0 nitrates between 5-10. Ph 7.8 i have 2 fontossa, 1 ebjd and 3 cuckoo catfish, 1 yellow lab and 1 peacock. 65 gallon. Penguin 350 and aqua clear 30. Temp is 80. Doing water changes every other day.

First thing check your tap water for ammonia. Water companies often add ammonia bonded with chlorine this is called chloramine and this could be the source of your ammonia. Ammonia at .25ppm is not that critical but over time it is harmful to your fish. Especially at a high pH level as yours. Also dosing your tank with Seachem Prime will detoxify the ammonia.

Are you using carbon in your filtration? If so, you really should remove it as it works against your use of Prime and ends up absorbing it.

I am. I am using a penguin 350 and aqua clear 30. Should i cut open the inserts and femove the carbon? Will it still keep the water clear without carbon?
