I was looking at a post in the set up and filtration section of the forum and someone was looking at getting a red breasted cichlid. That name didn't make sense so I googled it and came up with Amphilophus longimanus. From the couple picks I saw it looked pretty sweet, but I had never heard of it. Anyone got any info on these, ever kept em, got pics? I love Amps, but this one is new to me.

I've heard of them but never saw one or knew anyone that had one. I don't even know whe you would get one. Never see them on any vendor sites.

Is this one?

There was a real nice strain here locally in 2005, not a typical, or true, Amphilophus, actually, I believe they reside now within Astatheros. Moderately sized at best, maybe 5 inches, mild-mannered, a little too cute for my taste. Not really challenging to breed, I recall some barring display as breeding dress. I was underwhelmed, which is maybe a reason why you don't see them around. Good luck in your search-

Interesting.... I was just curious as I had never heard of them, so when this other poster mentioned them, I wanted to investigate. The fish in the pic is cool looking IMO. It does look kind of like a firemouth lyonsi cross might. Thanks for the info.
