Seems like the two isletas are connecting much faster than I thought. I assumed I would need a divider in order to let them get better acquainted. I have never bought a pair of fish from Jeff Rapps before. I assumed they would just be a random male and female but now I think he chose compatible fish. They are still settling but they are defiantly doing much better. I am predicting a spawn within the next month. Absolutely loving these fish.

Thanks and it will be nice too see how they all turn out. At the end of the day I think I just really missed my midas pair. These guys are a fitting substitute.

they look good,do they max out at the 12 inch range? will they get as bulky as devils/midas?

Looking good bro. I see they are coming around for you. They should spawn fairly quickly. My midas spawned the first week I got the male lol. I don't think Jeff picks out pairs. Amphs just breed like crazy lol. If I let my midas spawn whenever they wanted I would probably have fry every other week lol. Good Luck with them.

They get just as big as midas I saw one on her that was like 13". They just grow slower. My guy is 10" and is almost as tall and thick as my 11" midas.

Very nice. One of my favorite Amphilophus species.

Nice pair you have there. Red Issetas are one of my favorite amphs
Thanks

Based on what I have read and found on MFK they do not get as big as midas/red devils. However they are fairly new to the hobby and as are the other "new " amphs like saggitae and xiloaensis. So max size might be hard to approximate since most people have not had them very long(meaning years and years). I originally got them partly because of their smaller size but now I am thinking that they may get as large as citrinellum. They should get as thick too.,

Thanks for the comment. My last experience buying a pair online was salvini and they showed absolutely NO interest in eachother for moths so this is a wildly different experience. What are you feeding your isltetas? Mines red seems to come and go. I previously read that isletas do not get as big as midas but as you say I am not so sure. Amphilophus are one of those fish that doesn't have to be colorful. Their unique shape and personality more than make up for it.

Thanks a lot.

i feed mine NLS. the red comes and goes as you said. i notice my male gets a lot of red when facing off with another fish, breeding/courting female, and randomly at times. Size varies with all amphs. I have seen plenty 12" males so I can confidently say males should reach 12" without a doubt. Breeding them at this size might slow down growth. Im going to grow out my male for another year and then try to breed him. Good Luck with them! :)

Grow out your male for another year. Isn't he already like 10"? If it gets to the point to where they are breeding constantly I may separate mine as well to give them some time to grow.
