Hey has anyone kept these here? And noticed them to be extreamly slow growing? I have had mine for about 6ish months and they have grown only 1/2 an inch or less. My thorichthys aureus have outgrown them and they were purchased at the same time with the robertsoni bing about half inch longer, not the biggest aureus' (4 of them) are an inch longer then the robertsoni. There diet consists of frozen: blood and brine (once a week each) hikari gold mixed with kens cichlid pellets every other day and tetra (color) mixed with kens vegitable flakes every other day. Fasting for a day every two weeks. They are in a 110 with 8 aureus (between 3" and 1 1/2") 3 istlanum ( 1 1/2" newly added last week) and a 7" bocourti. They themselves are aboutt 2 1/2" and 2". Water changes are carried out weekly at 30-50%. And my test results are always fine with 0 ammonia or nitrites, and always below 20ppm nitrates (useually not readable). The tank is 72"x13"x26". Temp is kept at 79. And its filtered by a well maintained rena xp3. And a sponge filter... there sont much info on these guys so I turn to you mfk community, what have you noticed? How are yours? What do your eat? Etc........ thanks.

Mine Rob is still a baby, but he has grown faster than the other fish he has been in the tank with. I always feed with high quality pellets, shrimp, blood worms, and krill. He is showing great color already. I'll send you pics soon.

I do believe them to be slow growers. I have three that i got in July ranging from 3-4". Honestly i've never actually seen them eat anything i feed but i always seem em sifting after i've fed everyone. But i really like these guys so i'm willing to be patient with them.

At first mine only sifted, but they soon relized that if they went to the top area like the other fish, they would get more food. Then after its all clear the aureus and robertsoni go back to sifting... it seems they spend more then half the day sifting. I have noticed a lot of color coming out of them, but no size... there supposed to het like 8-10". I'm shocked that in 6 months all they have grown is like 1/2 an inch. My aurues only reach a total of like 5 inches I read. And there half way there in 6 months.. I just want these awesome cichlids to grow and I'm a little fearfull I'm missing something, or overlooking somethin... I fed prazipro gut loaded in brine last week just to clear up the possiblity of internal parisites, although I haven't seen any sighns I thought I would play it safe.

Mine was very slow growing. It took about 2 years for mine to get 7-8''. they are worth the wait and one of my favorite cichlids.
I also have an a. rostratus and this cichlid is even slower growing..

From pictures I have seen they are very good looking fish indeed... but during this time aren't they suppoesd to be in a growth spurt, especially under aquarium conditions.. it very confusing to me. In 6 months (after purchase so around inch and a half) most fish are about 1/3 to 1/2 there adult size. Of course this only with my observation. But I have kept like 20ish diffrent types of central american cichlid. I don't know its a bit puzzeling. Thanks for the replys... I hope to see a few inches outta these guys in the near future.
