I got this fish a few months ago and wondered for a while if he will ever fade. He is been fading since past month or so! He is turning out to be a brute, and is no longer the shy, scared fish he was just a few months ago. He has mated with the wild Amphilophus I got from Rapps (from his last trip down south) 2-3 times now.

The video is about a month old. He had a clutch in the tank with the female, and was mad at me/showing off to the female. He has faded even more, since this video:

That's a beautiful fish. I would be disapointed if it faded, but I have always been partial to Barred fish over colored morphs anyway.

Nice xilo... Well proportioned interactive and great looking... a young tank buster beast... That fish defines why I and I'm sure many others out there like cichlids..

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Here are a few pics from tonight. As you can see much more coloration since he started fading. Maybe if I am lucky, he stops now or within next few weeks :-)

Thanks.
He is young for sure, I would estimate about a year or so. They stay smaller, so I am kind of looking forward to smaller Amphilophus as ge grows. All the attitude, just smaller size.
I am a sucker for high body. I hope my Rapps festaes grow out to have a high body. I can not stand streamlined cichlids, much.

I love "partially turned" Amphilophus. But such coloration is so rare! Xilos are more prone to end up multi-colored, so maybe he stops when he is orange, white, and black. Who knows!

Wow how did i miss this one. Xilos are next on my list. Yours looks amazing.

Thanks..You should get some. They are pretty special. All Amphilophus are, to me!

Most impressive beastie in the making!
