im gonna say that this is an amarillo or chancho. the spot on the body is not as big as those on the barred midas'

Doesn't look like any barred cit. I've ever had. can you get a clearer side shot? Hey Ed, nice midas btw. :p

thanks just wish i knew if it was a Chancho, Amarillo, or Barred Midas.

That is the hardest part of these guys.... Usually the Chancho's have lighter color head/gill areas. Almost yellowish. (I believe:confused:)

I've been told the Amarillo's have some greens in the body??

The Barred Midas are usually very dark in color. Charcoal like bodies with black striping.

here is my barred midas, 9" TL & 1.75" Thick

i would say that yours is missing the big spot on the body for it to be a barred. im not saying its not a nice fish, but it just missing the big spot.

Coloration tells you nothing about a species designation. There are some captive populations that breed true for some color traits, but that doesn't mean you can use those to determine species. Without complete knowledge of collection, etc. you would need to perform a DNA test.
