Does anyone here on MFK own this cichlid, know anyone who owns it (friend for example), or has seen it in the hobby overall???

I own one Amphilophus Alfari and have not seen ANY people posting ANYWHERE about keeping one.

I will send an email to Jeff Rapps soon to ask IF he has ever kept them.

I could go pick some up from the LFS for about $10. They're nice, a bit too peaceful for any of my tanks right now.

Dang man, i envy you.

At APFP Modest_Man? I haven't made the drive down there in a long time.

i have seen pics of yours. its awesome. i personally have never seen them in person or on any stock lists.

I had a wild female from costa rica, the person who collected her did so along with some convicts. My source was unwilling to provide me with a male even though he had extras. He did not even know what they where at the time. The males he had where in the 8-10" range and very unimpressive in subdued dress due to the cooler temperature at which he kept his tanks. I'm sure in warmer temps they would have been spectacular.
Anyhow I only had the one and mild mannered was not how I would have described her. She could hang with the brutes and was able to tolerate other fish well-enough but she simply despised others and for no obvious reason. She killed my last remaining H. isonycterina right from the get-go and was rehomed before she could do the same to my jack dempseys and RTM's.
She was not above flirting with my midas as well as a male A. nourisatti while she spent some time in someone else's tank.
This was the best pic I could ever get of her, though I always tried getting better. She did not seem very shy when I came to the tank, she simply didn't like being photographed.

Yeah. Kevin had a couple different sizes at different times the last 6 months. Some 4-5", some 2" and some small guys around 1".
