Everyone has their favorite conditioners and that's not what this thread is about. I have been on the Novalek - Kordon website it is very informative, especially for newbies. It talks about fish pheromones that kill other fish, "singing fish", how fish communicate, stress, setting up, etc. I just ordered a test kit, cuz I'm wondering why my nitrates are always high no matter what I do. Could be I'm using wrong test kits, they talk about too, of course, they sell their own...

A bad/inaccurate kits are a possibility.
Before deciding that though, test your nitrates from your tap and see where it is at.
Some people have very high nitrates from the start, if that is your case, then it will be near impossible to get a low reading.

Assuming that you have 0 nitrates from the tap, the large water changes are in order.

Thanks - nitrates aren't the issue from the tap water. I don't know why I have issues. I have 2 fish in a 125 and am doing water changes. It's just weird. And I can't get any fish until I have a handle on this nitrate issue. Perfect scores for ammonia, ph, nitrite but nitrate...

The website is Novalek.com. There are many articles under the second Kordon tab and they even talked about a product they developed where fresh and salt water fish could live together - but then stopped production. Sounds awful, but it's interesting that it happened. I've learned some really interesting things so far. Check it out. Sometimes it's good to hear from the actual makers of the products we couldn't do without - even if we don't use that particular brand.
