So I have always used Amquel as the water conditioner and never had a problem. A couple weeks ago I went out and bought a new bottle of Amquel + and I noticed the label on the bottle was different then what it had been so I figured just a new label no big deal. I bought it anyway and started using it and a few days after I did a water change I noticed in the 20 gallon tank one of the goldfish was sitting on the bottom and his fins were white at the ends looked like a chemical burn. I checked the water and the
amn= 3 ppm the nitrate=0 nitrate=40 so I did a quick water change of 75% of the water. The goldfish that was lying on the bottom started to swimming and over the next few days was/is ok for now. A few days passed and I noticed that in my 55g the Texas was in his cave and I had not seen him out swimming around so I flushed him so I could inspect and the Texas seamed to be breathing heavier then normal. I checked the water and found the amn=1.0 nitrite=0 nitrate=40. I had done water changes on both tanks the same day the week before. I did a 50% water change and cleaned the filter and waited a couple days for the amn to go back to 0. It has not and it stays a 0.25ppm.I have been testing and re testing to try and figure out what is going on. I started looking at the Amquel that bought and thinking if it was expired or something so I smelled and it and there was not that pungent odor that Amquel has it actually smelled sweat. I called Kordon about it and the guy on the phone told me that they could be trying to make it smell better and messing with formula (in not so many words though). I have gone out and bought some Prime and I am going to do a water change tonight and see if this solves this problem. I am not saying that Amquel has caused this problem but I don't know what else to look at.
