Hey guys!when I was at the LFS,I saw a man holding an axolotl in a bag....I couldn't help but eavesdrop and I found out it was $72us....is it cheap or expansive...and as they are quite rare,I would want a pet like that.
is it difficult to keep?and what are the needs on one(feeding, water temps, space and "tank furniture")
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE GUYS!!!

very easy to keep if you can keep the water cold enough. if the temp gets over 75 it will probably kill it. i was feeding mine hikari sinking carnivore pellets when i had one.

There's a guy on here that sells them for a fraction of that price.

saw them for $25. look it up online. Not many people keep them here.

What do you feed them, can they have tank mates(fish)(would the fish harm them or the other way round),do you need plenty of rocks and a filter?
thanks guys!im sorry Im asking so many questions...just don't want to waste money if I buy one.....

The like slower water flow so pick a filter accordingly. They eat everything u out in front of them. I stick to massivore or carnivore hikari pellets, earthworms, black worms, sometimes market shrimp or raw talapia pieces. Not very picky
Tankmates id avoid. They eat smaller fish and if they dont the fish may pick at their gills and stress them out

I haven't owned one, but my friends axolotl is pretty motionless all the time besides feeding. Something to consider, if you're looking for an active pet.

They have very poor eyesight and will not compete with anything for food. Any tankmate would either hurt the axol or be eaten. Since they have poor eyesight, sand or barebottom tanks are a must. they will swallow gravel and can die. Anything over 70 F is pushing their comfort zone, but they do fine in anything from 40 F to 68 F. In the US, you can find them from 10$ to 50$, but we also have a few people breeding them. They are still by no means common.

They will readily eat anything. Since they are fairly inactive, care should be given not to over-feed. Obesity is a common problem. The easiest pet I own, I only run a sponge filter and an occassional water change.
