I've had several eels for a long time. I had them in one of my tanks in my basement by themselves forever. Never had a problem. I went down last week and they all looked dead. I don't think I've ever lost a whole tank like that. As it turned out...the heater died and the eels basically froze. I don't know how I didn't catch it faster but it gets really cold here. One died and I was able to save the others. So now I have one peacock eel that is probably pretty old (don't know how long they live but it was the first one I bought a long time ago). Once I got it into a different tank, it was obviously stressed from the whole ordeal and took some time to get moving. But now that it's moving well again, I've noticed that it doesn't seem to be able to eat very well. It tries but can't seem to just suck in a worm or blood worms like the others. It's eyes look different, the colors on the body have faded, it's a little skinny....it just looks like an old fish. I put a new peacock in there today and the difference is remarkable. Is this just an aging fish or did the heater really damage this eel? The others came out fine and are doing perfectly but they are also younger eels.
Thanks for any advice. I hate to lose this one after all this.
