This idea might be completely terrible just, something that crossed my mind. I remember reading a couple of posts about people with big catfish, struggeling to get them to eat anything but livefood.
If i remember correctly one of the posts was about a Wallago Attu. Well anyways i fish alot, and when fishing for pike, or other predators i sometimes use something thats called a lipskull. Heres a picture, you put the baitfish (or in my idea the fish you just got from your freezer to feed your larger fish) in the head and put the stick trough: http://www.pro-outdoor.dk/images/Pr...-agn-fisk-soft-jerkbait-doergning-aborrer.jpg

Of course you should remove the hooks, not use the stick to put trough the head, just something there would barely hold the fish in place, so the fish would fall off when the predator strikes. You can get these in 4 different sizes, i dont really remember if the smallest is for baitfish around 9, or 6,5 cm. there is one for baitfish around 13cm, then one for baitfish around 19cm, then the largest for baitfish around 25cm. It works best with baitfish that arent alot thicker than the head.
I could see it being and issue how it would hold up against large catfish, but also its made for fishing large predators so i think it would work. If you get a little creative this could even work with a fish fillet, if you cut it into about the right size.
Heres a video with a herring loaded in one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4klOjcOloTA

This is a crazy idea, but might be useful with catfish that normaly feed on live fish. I have heard of people dragging fish fillets around the tank making them look alive so the fish would take them, and this is kinda the same.
The hard thing would be to attach the food to the head, with it being to hard to fall out. As said this is crazy and just idea, most likely not gonna work.

I don't think this is a bad idea. It's on "paper". It certainly deserves a try. Could be better than my tying a thin thread to a thawed feeder fish tail and clumsily shaking and jerking it around the target fish's mouth. When and if that time comes again, I'll try to remember to try this.

Thank you.
I think it might have been you with the thread about the Wallago Attu. Well if you try this out, can you make a thread about it, or comment here the result?
One issue i have been thinking about is that fact, that if a large catfish completly swallows this, it might be hard to get it out of the mouth again. I used this for zander, here a couple of weeks back, (the medium size) and after a couple of trips and some fish, they did seem a bit cracked, maybe its from hitting a rock or something, but one did seem a little cracked. Also just wanted to say nice build thread on PCF.

Yes, I've written a few times on my sad saga but that was with a W. leerii.

Yes, as you say, one needs to try it and, chances are, work out bugs and problems. Only then an opinion can be of value.

As stated, I'll try to remember but I don't have to do this often, once in a few years. Yet, Murphy's law of iron (y) dictates that I will have to eat my words soon, once they are spoken.

Thanks for the compliment. It's much more of my wife's credit.

Good luck to you and your wife the project :)

I will update this thread. I will try with the smaller version on my Frontosa, just to see if the general idea works.

Weird. I've never had a problem getting Wallago attu or any other catfish to accept non live foods.I've been keeping them for 25 years with no trouble at all as far as the feeding issues go. Very opportunistic predators.
