Hi from the far reaches of MAINE!
I'm new to the world of "monster fish"... so here goes.
What started out as a fun little 20 gal tank for my 4 year old to put African Clawed Frogs in, turned out to be my hobby and passion for the last 4 years.
We no longer have frogs, I had fun with unique tetra's and guppies and neons, as well as a sweet lil clown loach. We got our beloved "spot" as a gift from my step-Dad. He thought he was doing us a favor as we greived over the loss of our first Knife fish, "ghostie".. you guesed it, a small ghost knife fish. Spot is a Clown Knife Fish and the fish store told my step dad it was of the same family and would be much easier to keep alive. What they didn't tell him was, well, everything a Clown Knife Fish Potential owner should know BEFORE you get one, typical box store.
Well, Spot is definetly thriving! He ate all my tetra's and guppies, and poor Bozo the Clown Loach and was moved to a 30 gal tank at my family's sushi bar.
Big surprise, he's outgrown that! I'm now cycling a newly set up 50 gal for him to move into. This tank was a gift, and I'm well aware he will outgrow it in short order, but it's summer, I'm a waitress, and hopefully an influx of finances will grant Spot a larger home.
Spot is now 12 inches long, been a part of our family for about 10 months and will be comming home to live with us as soon as his tank is ready for him.
He moved out in December and while I get to see him every day, my son misses him and we're excited he's comming home!
That's the long and short of my Monster Fish advenure so far... he's been eating a protien pellet up til now, and will continue until he gets home, for various reasons. I'll be switching him over to a frozen bloodworm diet when he gets here and I'll have the ability to try him on new foods without mucking up the water at the restaurant.
So I've done months of research and feel pretty knowledgeable about my friend Spot, just thought I'd try to connect with other owners so I don't feel so alone with this ever growing aqua-pit-bull
