I currently have two firemouth and two black cons in a 55 gal. Also have an eight in pleco. I want to add a two in Oscar. I know it would be temporary. How much time would i have before i need bigger quarters.

Oscars grow quickly. For 2 Oscars to have a chance at coexisting peacefully you'll need a 6' tank soon.

I would get the tank first then get the Oscars.

I think he meant a single 2 inch Oscar. You'd have about 6 months to move the o. You're main problem in the beginning would be the con and fm tolerating a small o

+1

The oscar at a small size is no match for the cons at the same size or larger. I wouldn't do it just because there isn't enough of a footprint for him right now, he would be constantly swimming to get away from one cichlid only to run into the territory of another. Just my .02

I was thinking the opposite. I was afraid the Oscar was going to go after the others. Both fire mouth are about 5 in. My cons are about 4in. I am going to upgrade soon. I've always wanted an Oscar. Just getting the itch to get one and not wait till I upgrade.

Oscars grow pretty quickly, and grow about an inch per month given the right conditions.

With that being said, I will concur with what the others are saying.

Your lil oscar will probably get picked on.
Probably would be best to wait for the upgrade

Oscars are big and bulky, but they are slow and docile compared to a convict. Oscars can't hold their own against other aggressive cichlids. I've had a 4 inch convict in breeding mode pin a 9 inch Oscar against the glass.

Glad my Oscar isnt that much of a pansy. Hes not aggressive but when my two cons start laying and get super aggressive he does not back down, he gets right back up in their face. They are about 4-5 inches and he is about 10 though. It depends on the fish. Not all Oscars are the same. That said I would not put a 2 inch oscar in with the two 4 inch Convicts as I am sure they would kill a small Oscar.

to sum up the above
1. based on your current stock a baby Oscar wouldn't be recommended
2. an oscar will outgrow your tank and would need a larger adult home.
