Anableps

Had a six pack before. Cool fish indeed. They need a decent amount of swimming space. Very jumpy and easily startled. They also need salt due to majority in brackish water.

I kept them for a few years. Never successfully bred them to my knowledge, though. They get quite large.

Word to the wise: only fill the tank about 1/2 way. They WILL jump out. I accidentally added a bit more water than usual after a water change and lost 2-3 10" livebearers on the floor (tank was even covered).

I started mine in brackish and found that they were just fine in full fresh. They need clean water and don't like waste buildup. Keep something to eat food that they miss from the bottom.

thanks for responses guys. Good to know they can actually do ok in fresh water. Not sure I would do it tho. They are $48 at my lfs and about 4" long

$48 seems a little steep. You should let them stay at your LFS for a few months and get them for the same price at 10" :)
hahahah very funny and could be true too!
However, this is my way for some species that I rather let them sit in LFS for few weeks to weed out those weak one, those that live through would be a strong one that resisted diseases and readily adapt to captive life.
