My cichlid hatchery is currently using close to 100 liters of water a day. I was thinking that a good drip filter might be effective in final nitrate removal. From what I've read however, they seem to cause other problems with water chemistry.
I was thinking that two 4" stand pipes 5' long in series filled with a crushed coral and silica sand mix might provide the best substrate and allow me to isolate each one in turn for a semi annual backwash without killing the anearobes in the other.
My hatchery volume is close to 2000 liters. I was thinking that a flow rate of 2 lpm from my sump back to the sump would be about right.
Has anyone had any experience with a similar system?
