This thread will be about the pros and cons of foods and wether they should be fed it is meant to be a list and possibly a sticky it is intended primarily for fresh and brackish species. Feel free to ask any relevant questions and remember a balanced and diverse diet is best for your fish.

On goldfish, koi and common carp as food.........these fish are high in thiamase which often leads to thiamase poisoning which often kills fish, goldfish are also high in copper which leads to copper poisoning which messes with the livers and swim bladders in fish and also can lead to blindness and cloudy eyes, this group of fish often have many diseases when bought and offer little in the way of benefits except increased growth. A poor choice for fish.

On sunfish and cichlids as food.......these fish when quarantined are good choices as food for many fish just keep in mined many olde fish have tough spines and should be eaten head first most fish know this, also note clumsy fish may have trouble catching these fish.

insects.......most feel fishes diet consist of insects, aquatic insects promote growth and contain minerals and calcium in their exoskeletons they are relished by pike- cichlids,shovel nose sturgeon,Aros and much more. Good species to feed fish includes:crickets,grasshoppers,Japanese beetles, wax and mealworms, mayflies ,house flies, dead wasp, dead bees, carpenter ants, super worms. Make sure they r chemical free

On feeding livebearers...... Livebearers when quarantined make healthy fw snacks esp when bred yourself

Dont feed goldfish tropical foods. They dont need more than 35% protein

Worst food choices I have heard of:soft shell turtles, lizards and snakes,:these are hard for fish to digest and may rupture intentional lining, also avoid tuna, shark, Rays, any of the billfish, puffers, Buford toad species and clawed frogs

Crayfish as food.... Crayfish make good calcium rich snacks especially for critters like puffers and common snapping turtles it is also a favorite of raccoons and hellbenders. The claws may cause injury to unwary fish and the people who feed the fish.
