Ecology : The species inhabits off shore and rocky areas in deep sea. It can be fished. It is found in the south sea of Korea including Jeju, south of Hokkaido in Japan, South China Sea and the Indian Ocean. Note :The body is long oval with high body depth. There are saw tooth-like spikes on the edge of the preoperaculum below which are one or two strong spikes. The groove between the spinous rays and soft rays is very shallow. It has 11 spinous rays with 13 to 16 soft rays. The anal fin has 3 spinous rays with 9 to 10 soft rays. The body has 7 deep blackish brown stripes from the front of spinous rays on the dorsal fin to the caudal peduncle on the brown surface. Among them, the second and fifth stripes stretch above the dorsal fin. When the fish grows over 50cm, the stripes become pale. There is a white rim at the tip of caudal fin. Its total length is about 90㎝.
i saw one on youtube where a sushi man cuts up a fish and it looks alot like the datnoids except its black and white. id post a picture but not sure what the name of the fish is
