Over the rainbow
I noticed today my small polypterus is covered in these thread like worms all over his body. When i say covered i mean COVERED! They look lie anchor worms to me. I raised the temp and added aquarium salt. I dont udnerstand how this could happen i do weekly 50% waterchanges i have more than enough filteration and a uv sterilizer. My 3 dempseys dont seem to have any on them. Whats going on!?

that doesn't sound like anchor worms, which are dark grayish color and harder to deal with. if the ones on your bichirs are white/clear and look like tiny little hair sticking out, then they're flukes.

did you add any new bichirs or new fish? usually that's how they're introduced. or did you feed anything live?

anyway, treat the tank with Jungle Parasite Clear (or Tetra Parasite Guard, which is the same thing as far as i can tell. i think Tetra might have bought Jungle Labs or something). Follow the instructions on the package, and they'll be gone in no time. Continue to finish the full course of treatment even after the worms are gone. oh and turn off the UV while treating.
