So about a week and half ago i made a thread where my aro was getting gill curl. So i moved him into a larger/new tank. i set my old tank aside and yesterday i noticed it was infested with anchor worms (1cm white thin worms).

So im thinking when my aro was in the old tank it also had the worms. When ever i did a water change i would notice these white stringy things but didnt think anything of it at the time. I should of done some research. also this is prob why my aro wasnt eating.

Now that hes been in the new tank for a week, hes been eating fine and i cant spot any anchor worms on him. nothing near his fins or mouth.

so my question is could his gill be infected and prob caused the gill to curl?? he also makes coughing gestures, like opening his mouth all the way. is the anchor worm inside him? and should i treat him anyways to be safe?

im running a eheim pro2 canister filter and if i run meds(pottasium permangnaet *sp*) should i shut it off?

okay they may not have been anchor worms but planaria.

ive never feed my aro feeders or any live food. only food sticks and 3 shrimps all his life. so i dont think anchor worms could of gotten in the tank.

also a lil update on his gill curl. added a power head and its pushing his gill back. its not as bad as before. might not return to normal but atleast the hard plate aint curling. might just leave it like that and not perform surgery.

Pictures of the gills would help people give you input.

Increase salinity to 0.3%. Water change 30% every week. The salt will take care of those worms. Gill curl is cause by bad water parameters, nothing to do with worms.

i know the worms were just planaria. not concerned about them anymore.

its been 2 weeks so far that ive been trying to correct his gill curl. its almost back to normal. the power head really helped. ill try get some before and after pics up later

Gill curl and planaria are definete signs that your tank water is filthy. Better tank maintanence and more frequent water changes will lead to a reduction in both.
