I bought this fish from my lfs. the dealer just said it was a rare ancistrus species. I'd like to confirm this and have the exact name specified. The fish is completely black except for some white spots on it's belly. It is very armoured and is covered in razor sharp spikes. It doesnt have bristles anywhere but around the gills. It is about 9" long. Very spiny. Has a very long stringy tail that stretches about half the body size. Hope someone can ID it

Thanks

Looks like acanthicus adonis or acanthicus hystrix. Im betting its a. adonis because of those little white specks.
If your tank has less than a 6' x 3' footprint or you dont plan on getting a tank of that size, bring it back to the store. A. Adonis gets to about 33" long, not counting the tail.

thanks, and i agree with adonis. do you think the fish was worth $70?

Hard to say... Im not sure how adonis are normally priced.
However, if you cant provide it with a tank with at least a 6' x 3' footprint, i dont hink it will have a vry happy life.
