Stopped into a Petco today to take a look at their tanks/stands...of course walked around and checked out their fish selection. I'd never been to this one before and actually found the store to be semi-decent for Petco (all the fish looked good).

I spotted this good sized Synodontis without a tag...was about 6" or so, and in perfect shape. I asked an employee how much he was...the guy actually asked what size my tanks were. He said okay, we can do him for $10. Had him bagged up, went to the counter, and the cashier was confused about how to ring it up as it was an "adoption"...I actually had to fill out their adoption paperwork lol. After he called a manager and put the sku in, he goes oh...I guess there is no charge since it is an adoption..have a good day. :headbang2

I'm not totally familiar with synodontis species and my camera battery is dead (will get pics tonight) but he looks like this, just a bigger girth.

Wow. That's awesome. LOL.

Keep in mind that all stores are different even if they belong to the same chain. One time my friend that works at Petsmart got really pissed off because we went to a Petsmart about an hour away from where he works and the large tiger oscars that are usually at his work are 4", but at the other store they were 8" and he had just bought some tiger oscars to grow out for his 180g the day before. Not to mention the 4" one and the 8" one were both marked as large and marked at the same price. It just goes to show what an influence the people in the area have on the fish sold(the area were were in with the bigger fish was a rich area).

Ha that guy screwed up! The price always shows up at 0 for an adoption and you have to manually enter the price. Your gain.

I used to run the aquatics section for a petco. I was the only one who knew anything about fish there except one other manager. So I would have been that guy going "how big's your tank?"

Thanks guys! This Petco was in Milford MA...I can't really say anything bad about it either. I did stop at another Petco in Auburn on my way back home and it was sad, the tanks are just decrepit looking compared to the other one, the fish don't look so good and the aquatics guy is an idiot.

Yeah I know he screwed up...I walked out quickly, they probably got the fish for free anyway haha.

Anyways, I come bearing some poor pics...any help with species ID?

Sweet deal!

All the feather fins at my local Petco/Smart had their fins nipped to nubs and weird white marks all over them...Placed in with barbs that have obviously nipped them to nubs. Grrr.

I hardly go into that Auburn store. Last time I bought something there was a 40b during the summer at one of there $1 per gallon sale. I went there early this week to check out what they had lying around for this sale and took a look at their fish...tanks looked awful. I would never buy a fish from there. I go to Krystal Clear Aquatics in Auburn-mostly saltwater, but awesome shop. Highly recommend stopping in there if yuou havent already been.
