Hey people, I'm going to start up a nano reef soon and I had a few questions :) First, I have read that clownfish will only host certain species of anemone, depending on the species of clownfish, is this true? Second, what kind of lighting is required for sebae anemones? Last but not least, could a clownfish thrive without an anemone?

Sebae anemones need alot of lighting. Like MH lighting. I have 235 watts on my 40 breeder and my sebae does just fine. Clownfish do not need anemones to live. They will thrive without them given they have good water conditions.

It depends what kind of lighting ur nano will have. You also need to good water quality for anemones. Clowns will be fine without an anemone and if you add other corals they might host those too. Ive had success with sebaes with 3-4 watts per gallon power compact twin bulbs. You also should try to place the anemone higher in the tank but beware the dont always stay where you want so be sure to cover in take tubes so their tentacles cant get sucked up.

Thanks for the help! :)

i would kind of hold off on adding the nem for a while, at least until your tank is semi-established....
