I have a serious hair algae problem and I am thinking on picking up a few platys and then skip feeding for a week to force them to eat the algae. How long will this be ok for my Angels and cupidos?

You won't have to skip any feedings. If platys are anything like mollies, they will eat the algae all day anyway. In the wild they eat far more than they do in our tanks, so there's really no limit to how much algae a molly (and hopefully a platy) will eat.
